One of the downsides to only writing part-time is that you don’t always get to write as often as you like (which I’m sure any longtime PretentiousPDX reader will have noticed – mea culpa!). That said, the upside for you, dear reader, is that you’re only going to hear from me when there’s something I’m really enthused about. Which is why you should listen up when I tell you that Pop-Up Magazine is coming back to Revolution Hall this fall and you should go.

We talked at some length about the format of Pop-Up Magazine last fall (and if you want a more fulsome description of what you can expect, I’d recommend checking out that post), but for the uninitiated, Pop-Up Magazine is a live event where storytelling and journalism intersect in a really unique and entertaining fashion.

Pop-Up Magazine is a live show in the truest sense of the word – the lineup (which changes slightly in every city) in kept under wraps until the night of the show, and there are no videos or live-streams to refer back to – if you miss it, you miss it. The talent is top-notch, as well – at last fall’s edition included pieces by comedian Aperna Nancherla (perhaps best known for her role on “Master of None”) and Sean Rameswaram (from NPR’s “More Perfect”, now host of Vox’s “Today Explained”).

Last October’s show sold out almost immediately, so this year they’re adding a second night to the mix – Pop-Up Magazine will return to Revolution Hall on Tuesday, October 2 and Wednesday, October 3. Tickets are on sale now and are already selling briskly, so I’d recommend heading over to their website to snag your seats.
